1 Samuel 15:13-23

  1. And Samuel came to Saul: and Saul said unto him, Blessed be thou of the Lord: I have performed the commandment of the Lord.
  2. And Samuel said, What meaneth then this bleating of the sheep in mine ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?
  3. And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto the Lord thy God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.
  4. Then Samuel said unto Saul, Stay, and I will tell thee what the Lord hath said to me this night. And he said unto him, Say on.
  5. And Samuel said, When thou wast little in thine own sight, wast thou not made the head of the tribes of Israel, and the Lord anointed thee king over Israel?
  6. And the Lord sent thee on a journey, and said, Go and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they be consumed.
  7. Wherefore then didst thou not obey the voice of the Lord, but didst fly upon the spoil, and didst evil in the sight of the Lord?
  8. And Saul said unto Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the Lord, and have gone the way which the Lord sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.
  9. But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the Lord thy God in Gilgal.
  10. And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.
  11. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

Galatians 5:16-26

  1. This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
  2. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
  3. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
  4. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
  5. Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
  6. Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
  7. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
  8. Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
  9. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
  10. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
  11. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

Psalm 51

To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.
  1. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
  2. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
  3. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.
  4. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.
  5. Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.
  6. Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.
  7. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
  8. Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.
  9. Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.
  10. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
  11. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
  12. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
  13. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
  14. Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.
  15. O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.
  16. For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.
  17. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
  18. Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem.
  19. Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.

Ephesians 1:3-14

  1. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
  2. According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
  3. Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
  4. To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
  5. In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
  6. Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;
  7. Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:
  8. That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:
  9. In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:
  10. That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
  11. In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
  12. Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

Luke 1:26-38

  1. And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
  2. To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.
  3. And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
  4. And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
  5. And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
  6. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
  7. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
  8. And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
  9. Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
  10. And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
  11. And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.
  12. For with God nothing shall be impossible.
  13. And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
